Dr. Nathan Ngieng Recognized With King Charles III Coronation Medal
An incredible honour has put a spotlight on Abbotsford School District’s Superintendent. Dr. Nathan Ngieng has received the King Charles III Coronation Medal, a historic recognition that celebrates significant contributions to community, service, and Canada. This achievement not only recognizes his nearly three decades of dedication to education, but also reflects the values of innovation, integrity, and student-centred leadership that he demonstrates every day.
Superintendent Ngieng's recognition is rooted in a career defined by purposeful action. Throughout his years in education, he has remained committed to creating meaningful opportunities for students, championing innovation, and ensuring student voices are not only heard, but valued. Among the work closest to his heart, the work for which he was nominated, is advancing student voice initiatives and creating spaces where students play an active role in shaping conversations about their education. Through this work, he has helped strengthen dialogue, inspire change, and reinforce the importance of listening to students’ lived experiences.
Superintendent Ngieng emphasized that while the medal is a personal milestone, it represents the work of a district deeply committed to students. A shared focus on trust, teamwork, and student success continues to guide decisions that support more than 20,000 students and 3,000 staff across the district.
Beyond professional accomplishment, the medal also carries deep personal meaning. In reflecting on the honour, Dr. Ngieng has shared how strongly it connects to his family's journey, particularly his father's immigration story and the sacrifices made in pursuit of greater opportunity. This perspective makes the recognition more than an award. It symbolizes possibility, perseverance, and the lasting impact of dedication across generations.
The recognition of Superintendent Ngieng’s work shows that service grounded in vision, courage, and commitment can create meaningful change. This achievement reflects what is possible when education is approached not simply as a profession, but as a calling to make a difference.
Congratulations, Superintendent Ngieng!
